What Is a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit?

As part of Medicare medical coverage (Part B), seniors are entitled to an Annual Wellness Visit after they have been on Medicare for 12 months. It doesn't matter whether you have traditional Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Program. To get this at no cost, you must use a Medicare doctor. In Mesquite, TX,  Dr. Jeremiah Sisay of Grace and Joy Medical accepts Medicare, and you can go to him to get your wellness visit.

A wellness visit is not a physical exam. No blood tests or other diagnostic tests are included. It is a visit designed to assess your health and create a plan to keep you well. On your first AWV, your information will be noted and at each subsequent visit, your information will be updated. The questions your Medicare doctor in Mesquite, TX will ask to include medical and psychological information.

Family History

A complete family history including parents, siblings, or children for any hereditary diseases. It will also include past surgeries and conditions you may have suffered from.

Current Medication and Providers

You should bring a complete list of all the medications that you currently take, both prescription and OTC. You will also be asked for a list of any doctors or other healthcare providers you may be seeing.

Health Risk Assessment

This part may include a questionnaire, and it asks a lot about your emotional and mental health as well as your physical, risks and injuries. Are you falling? Is where you live safe? Do you have immediate medical needs? Are you able to perform activities of daily living? Do you have the help you may need to be safe? Are you depressed?

Screening Schedule

A screening schedule should be set up to let you know what needs to be screened and what is covered by Medicare and any immunizations you may require.

Measurements

Your weight, height, and blood pressure will be taken along with any other appropriate measurements.

Cognitive Impairment

Your doctor will talk to you about any cognitive issues you may be noticing, and they will observe your behavior. They are not required to test you for impairment. But if your doctor notices anything out of the ordinary, another visit for a test may be deemed advisable.
